School of Management

School of Management

In 1991, the School of Management was established splitting from the Department of Management, the School of Commerce. We aim to develop human resources which can respond to the needs of the 21st century business world, utilizing both basic and expert knowledge and skills, as well as problem-recognition and problem-solving skills.
Starting with the adoption of the semester system, we have also made special seminars more accessible, expanded our elective course work by permitting the auditing of lectures in other departments, displayed a systemized credit completion model and have decreased class size.

An Enhanced Curriculum

  • 1) Early introduction of specialized courses of study: Freshmen and sophomores can take specialized courses without requirement restrictions for each year.
  • 2) Elective courses have been significantly expanded by allowing free auditing between schools (School of Economics, in particular).
  • 3) Presentation of course registration models: In order to provide systematized learning opportunities, the entire specialized courses are categorized into four course groups; “Business Management”, “International Management”, “Management Information” and “Accounting/Finance”. Also, five course registration models have been presented, which are, “Business Management Course Model”, “International Management Course Model”, “Management Information Course Model”, “Accounting Course Model” and “Finance Course Model”. We encourage following at least one of these models.

Small classes: More Accessible Seminars and Introduction to Management Studies

  • 1) Seminars, which have about 20 students, are offered during the sophomore year. Throughout the following years, we continue to provide the small group method for students.
  • 2) “The Introduction to Management Studies” is offered for freshmen as an orientation class of “Management Science" or of the "School of Management of Chukyo University". This class is held in an omnibus form in the spring semester, and in a seminar form in the fall semester.

A Practical Approach to Education

  • 1) We have opened a two-week course called Corporate Training (2 credits) which includes a condition of the participation in an internship.
  • 2) We recognize credit and support from school affiliated career center and other related exam preparation courses (21 courses for government employee exam, book-keeping exam, system administrator exam, sales agent exam and TOEIC etc.).
  • 3) We support international exchange program through ISEP affiliated universities and institutions with mutual academic exchange agreements as well as exchange student courses (a maximum of 16 credits).
  • 4) From 2004, we introduced a prominent corporate lecture, "Special Lecture on Stock Market" (provide by Nomura Securities).
  • 5) Outside of mainstream curriculum, we also host a variety of other events including an orientation (2-day excursion) for the first year students.
