Exchange of people is extending beyond national boundaries, spreading throughout the world, and Japan is no exception. Today, Japanese enterprises are dealing with the world. Millions of Japanese are entering a new stage of commerce, not so much with Britain and the US, but deepening ties with Asian, South American, and European countries of large population and rapid economic growth.
Envisioning these diverse interactions with people from different lands, we offer a curriculum of English, the so-called international language, and a choice of one of the five representative languages of the world; French, Spanish, German, Russian, or Chinese.
Classes in the optional languages selected by students are small in size. Two teachers, one Japanese and one native speaker of the language selected, work together in setting up a practical curriculum that includes conversation, presentation, skill acquisition for the use of information equipment, as well as preparation for language proficiency tests.
Units are awarded after completion of the one-semester study abroad program (required by all major students of this school in principle) and short-term overseas training programs, such as overseas business training (optional). Students prepare themselves to be an active part of international business upon graduation.
Today, in a rapidly changing international society, what is sought where actual international exchange takes place is not so much a narrow range of extremely specialized knowledge but an ability to deal with diverse problems making a full use of broad-based knowledge. To prepare students for international society, we offer four curriculum categories;
language culture, historical culture, philosophic culture, and international society, in order to provide students with opportunities to acquire broad-based knowledge and education, as well as an outstanding international sense of perspective and global ethics. The world is coming closer together, and along with it, differences in customs, history, and creeds sometimes impede and hinder sound interactions.
What allows the people of the world to overcome such obstacles is language ability and education based on an understanding of diverse cultures. The School of International Liberal Studies aims for its students to acquire these two abilities. In order to foster human resources that are in demand globally, we open our door to youth with ambitious minds.
