Chukyo University has, since its establishment, advocated an "open university" that is a place for higher education open to students, the community, and society. Many working people are studying at the Center Building, built on the Nagoya campus in 1994, as a base where exchanges beyond the walls of the community are made.

LIFELONG STUDY INSTITUTE ORGANIZED BY THE POPULAR LOCAL UNIVERSITY
The open college was established in 1995 to provide citizens with the results of education and research of Chukyo University. As of March 2006, the open campus has become rooted in the region as a place where you can further your studies, regardless of age. The Open College offers a variety of lectures, offering courses in literature, psychology, history, law, sports and health, calligraphy, personal computers, languages, etc. Lectures are offered in the spring and fall.

EXHIBITION OF REMARKABLE WORKS BY LIVING ARTISTS
The Chukyo University Art Gallery, C·Square was opened in October 1994 as a base to propagate today’s visual or plastic arts not only to Chukyo students but also to the community. Exhibitions are held with a unique project as a core program, by selecting from existing artists or art groups in many different genres including painting, sculpture, installation ( temporary exhibition ), media art, photography, film, arts and crafts, and design.

ANNUALLY ATTENDED BY 4,000 CITIZENS
It has been 19 years since Chukyo University began offering public lectures free of charge ( public talk, symposiums ). The public lectures consist of a series of four areas: “culture/art/education”, “economy and management”, “health/leisure/sports” ( co-sponsored by the Chubu Association of Corporate Executives ), and “soft science” ( co-sponsored by the Nagoya City Science Museum ). Lecturers in those fields are invited from both inside and outside of Japan to give lectures. The lectures given by those leading persons boast popularity and eight lectures a year bring more than 4,000 people. The lecture “Symposium of Business Prospects” given at a centrally located hotel in Tokyo is especially popular with more than 1,000 people participating in the courses.
