International Students

Application conditions

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements.

  • 1. Those outside of Japan must have graduated from a school equivalent to a high school in Japan, and who have completed 12 or more academic years and reached 18 years of age at the time of entrance.
  • 2. Applicants must obtain a residential permit for "studying abroad," and a residential permit as an interim measure as stipulated by the Immigration and Refugee Certification Law. Applicants must also have a "student visa" and have a reliable guarantor in Japan.
  • 3. Applicants must be able to prove that they have taken the "Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)-NIHON RYUGAKU SHIKEN" and to provide their test results.

Application forms

Use only black ballpoint pen to fill out forms. Certificates must be created within three months.

  • (1) Equivalent of "application qualifications"
  • (2) Submit the original or an official certificate issued by a governmental institution (Copy not accepted.)
    *It will be returned after receipt.
  • (3) University or junior college graduates are required to submit a diploma as well.
◆Copy of admission ticket to the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, "NIHON RYUGAKU SHIKEN"

Submit a copy of your admission ticket to the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students for which you are requesting results.

◆Proof of alien registration or alien registration card
  • (1) Documents that can confirm residency qualifications and residency period.
  • (2) Certificates of Alien Registration will be checked and returned at the reception counter.

Applications

1. Application method
  • (1) Enclose the forms in the envelope provided by Chukyo University, and bring it to Chukyo University, Nagoya campus Admissions Center, Bldg. 14, 1F
    *Hours: Weekdays: 9 am - 4 pm, Saturdays: 9 am - 12:30 pm
  • (2) If sending via mail, send by "registered express mail".
2. Examination fee
  • (1) Pay the examination fee of 35,000 yen at a post office, using the form provided by Chukyo University.
  • (2) After payment, make sure to obtain a receipt from the post office.
  • (3) Be sure to pay at a post office, as payment at other financial institutions or cash at the school will not be accepted.
3. Admission ticket to the examination
  • (1) After the application is received, an admission ticket will be mailed to the address specified by the applicant.
  • (2) The ticket may arrive to the address which is written in application cards.
  • (3) If you do not receive the ticket within 3 days prior to the examination date,

  • (4) If you lose your ticket, or you forget to bring it on the examination date, notify Admissions Center.

Notification of acceptance

  • 1. All applicants will be notified in writing of pass or fail results. We will not answer telephone inquiries, nor announce the results on bulletin boards.
  • 2. Forms required for registration will be sent along with the notice of the results. Register by the date specified.

Tuition

Entrants admitted as international students will receive 30 percent discount on the standard tuition fees for 2010. The 30 percent tuition discount for 2011 and thereafter may be changed upon consideration of the economic condition at that point. Details of tuition and fees are for 2010, and may be changed due to economic conditions.

Financial assistance for foreign students

1. The following scholarship assistance is available for foreign students.
  • (1) Assistance from Chukyo University
    "Scholarship for foreign students in Chukyo University"
Eligibility Those who have studied at Chukyo for one year or more, are at least second year students at the time of application, and have excellent grades but face financial difficulty in going to school.
Numbers to be awarded Up to seventeen students (seven undergraduate students and ten graduate students for 2010)
Amount of scholarship 45,000 yen (undergraduate students) and 65000 yen (graduate students) per a month

    "Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students "
Eligibility Full-time undergraduate or graduate students who need financial assistance and who have excellent grades

Amount of scholarship 48,000 yen (undergraduate students) and 65,000 yen (graduate students) per a month
Period of scholarship One year
Selection method Decided by Japanese Student Services Organization(JASSO)
  • (3) Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
    "Japanese Government Scholarship Student"
Eligibility Undergraduate Foreign students in the third year (under 26 years old) expected to advance to their senior year, and graduate foreign students (under 36 years old) who have excellent grades, but face financial difficulties in continuing school.
Numbers to be awarded Very few (one student for 2009)
Amount of scholarship 126,000 a month for an undergraduate student, and 160.000 a month for an graduate student
Period of scholarship One year
Selection method Decided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology based on the university's recommendation
  • (4) There are also scholarships from private organizations. Details will be explained in the orientation for foreign students offered after admission.
2. Health maintenance

It is important to take care of your health while studying in Japan. If you feel sick in class, you can go to the Health Center for treatment. Just in case, be sure to enroll in the National Health Insurance program. In addition, for the subscribers of the National Health Insurance Program, a subsidy up to 80 % (It will be changed to 35% from April 2006) of the treatment fee paid can be received upon request if you are registered in the "Foreign Students Medical Subsidy System" by the Association of International Education, Japan.

3. Careers after graduation

Some students return to their own countries, others continue to graduate school, while others aim to gain employment, etc, but the International Center and Careers Center will offer consultation and assistance to all.

4. Provision of Consultation Windows

There are sure to be many differences in lifestyle and culture between your country and Japan. If you have any problems in academic or everyday life, feel free to consult the International Center, Student Affairs office, or Careers Center on campus.

5. Application by a representative or an agent

In Chukyo University, staff members who have taken classes given by the Ministry of Justice and who are licensed by the Immigration Office for application by a representative handle various application forms required by the Immigration Office for you. (It is called application by an agent, or "TORITSUGI SHINSEI.") Applications for renewal of residential permits and for activities outside of visa qualifications are, generally, taken care of in full at the university.
